Activity: Use the Self Care Station

Time: 9:00am

This morning I stopped by the self care station in the Health and Wellness Resource Office to check in with my height, weight, and blood pressure.  I have tried to make sure that I check my blood pressure at least once a month.  I have never had high blood pressure before, and mine usually reads low, but it is important for all individuals to pay attention to this, no matter  their fitness level, size, shape, etc.  Acquiring high blood pressure can cause: heart failure, aneurysms, kidney failure, heart attack, stroke, and amputation.

Are you aware that a blood pressure of 120/80 can be categorized as “pre-hypertension?  Or that eating too much sodium, drinking too much alcohol, not getting enough potassium, smoking, excess weight, and not enough physical activity can all raise blood pressure?

Guess where I found all this useful information?  The Self Care Station!! It is a great resource for everyone on campus.  Using it always makes me feel great about myself in that I am keeping my eye on my health.  If you haven’t checked it out yet, get over to the Health and Wellness Resource Office in the Memorial Union and try it out.  It takes less than 5 minutes…why not use it?
